Get to Know Dr. Mesa

Dr. Tyler Mesa is a Mandeville, LA native who has always had a heart for helping others smile. His early interest in dentistry was sparked by his parents, both dental lab technicians, and his passion for helping those with special health care needs was inspired by his wonderful big brother who is autistic and epileptic. Dr. Mesa grew up volunteering at the Special Olympics, and went on to work with kids as an ABA therapist during his time in undergraduate school. Meshing his love of both dentistry and special needs care, Dr. Mesa knew he wanted to make a meaningful difference as a pediatric dentist.

Dr. Mesa earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and headed back home to attend Louisiana State University for dental school. He then completed his pediatric dentistry residency at Children's National Hospital in Washington D.C., where he served as chief resident. As a board-certified pediatric dentist, Dr. Mesa is in your family’s corner with the highest levels of excellence and quality in children’s dental care — and he’s always learning more!

Today, Dr. Mesa couldn’t be happier to serve the community of Slidell as the owner and founder of Live Oak Pediatric Dentistry. He’s honored to provide a comfortable and compassionate dental home that kids and parents feel excited about visiting! Dr. Mesa is intentional about treating each child as if they were his own, showing your little one kindness and respect every step of the way.

A few other things you should know about Dr. Mesa? He’s a big foodie and loves traveling with his wife, Kristin! On the weekends, you can find them enjoying the endless amazing restaurants in New Orleans, going to concerts, spending time with their two dogs, Luna and Marty, or crossing another beautiful destination off of their travel bucket list. Dr. Mesa and Kristin are expecting their first child later this year!

What to Expect

You and your little one can always look forward to making fun, special memories when you visit Live Oak Pediatric Dentistry. Our office is surrounded by tons of beautiful wildlife, including a peaceful outdoor pond where kids can feed the fish! 

Inside, you’ll be welcomed by the friendly faces at our front desk and given a free t-shirt to celebrate your child’s first visit! Come hang out in our fresh, inviting patient lounge where your kiddo can read to their heart’s content. We also have TVs above every treatment chair and a treasure tower filled with exciting prizes, giving your child the fun, relaxing, and rewarding dental experience they deserve.

We believe quality, teamwork, and trust are the foundation of great pediatric dental care. That’s why Dr. Mesa takes pride in having a family-focused practice where questions are always encouraged and every possible option is laid out with transparency. Parents are always welcome to be with their children throughout their visit.

He values getting to know your family on a personal level, listening to your little one’s needs, and partnering alongside you to give them the very best start for their smile.

Technology and Amenities

Treating your child as if they were our own is a core value that touches every corner of our practice — including the equipment we use to treat their teeth! Our advanced soft-tissue laser delivers top-notch comfort, precision, and efficiency for procedures such as tongue and lip tie releases, as well as gingivectomies and more! In addition to using only the most modern, safe dental materials available, we also also use digital x-rays to capture the most detailed picture of your child’s smile with the lowest levels of radiation possible. 

Here, we’re uprooting dental fears. If your little one is feeling nervous about their upcoming appointment, we offer stress-free treatment options including minimally invasive dentistry techniques as well as sedation options like laughing gas, IV sedation, and more to help them feel calm and confident in the dentist's chair.
